Westpac and NAB connect with Amazon Alexa

Set to launch in Australia and New Zealand on February 1, Amazon Music Unlimited will become available with a catalogue of more than 45 million songs.

Amazon Alexa works as an in-home virtual helper, similar to Apple's Siri and Google Assistant, where users can ask questions and receive answers or access to media on request.

Ordinarily, the Amazon Echo is priced at $149, the Echo Dot at $79 and the Echo Plus at $229, however, Amazon is offering special limited-time pricing right now at $119, $49 and $199 respectively. This product supports many features found in the Amazon Echo, though the Echo Dot is considerably smaller than its counterparts and hence doesn't offer the same level of audio quality. Seek company reviews, job skills and weekly employment market updates will become available through Amazon voice-based devices locally from February.

Alexa is the brains behind the Echo devices - Internet-connected voice-controlled speakers - who keeps getting smarter.

The Echo has been available in the U.S. for years - well before Google entered the market - but this is the first time the gadget has been officially sold in Australia via Amazon's freshly-launched Aussie website.

After being given access to the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and Alexa Voice Service (AVS) in December, developers from local organisations have launched their respective offerings in line with Thursday's announcement from Amazon.

Amazon has also announced that its "Amazon Music Unlimited" service will also be available in Australia from February 1st, 2018.

Michael continues, "We are incredibly excited to be the first employment marketplace in Australia to be able to offer voice-activated job search and career insights for our customers with Amazon Echo and Alexa".

The new feature allows users to link Alexa to their Dimmi account, enabling voice reservations at more than 4000 restaurants.

Westpac, one of Australia's largest banks, has teamed up with Amazon to enable basic banking services on Alexa-enabled devices.

The Music Unlimited service will be going for AUD 4.99 per month for a single echo device, AUD 11.99 per month for a regular individual account, and AUD 17.99 per month.
