Mohamed Salah took to Twitter to show off his African player of the year award on Friday night just hours ahead of Liverpool FC's FA Cup clash against Everton.

Salah beat 2015 victor Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and his Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane in a poll by African national team coaches.

Egypt, who will play senior national team Sihlangu in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers 2019, also won CAF National Team of the Year, and its Argentinean coach, Hector Cuper, was named Coach of the Year.

Known better as a failed Chelsea winger, Salah's iconic moment in 2017 was when he helped Egypt reach the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation. "I want to tell them never to stop believing and dreaming".

Salah became the second after the Egyptian Mahmoud El-Khatib, was awarded the title of player of the year by the African football Confederation.

Salah had bagged a number of awards this season such as the BCC African Footballer of the year and Arab player of the year.

"It is a privilege to have been crowned the best player in Africa and winning this award is a dream come true".

"This award is a big award for me ... it's a special moment for me in my career".

Salah scored both goals, including the injury-time victor, in the 2-1 win over Republic of Congo in October that sealed Egypt's place at the World Cup.

Salah achieved many records this season with the Egyptian football national team and his club Liverpool FC. The award is also aimed at improving the development of soccer in Africa.

"Referees already have their rewards and marks of recognition".
