Helena bonham Carter is rumoured to be next in line to play Princess Margaret in the Netflix drama The Crown.

Vanessa Kirby has been so glorious as Princess Margaret in seasons one and two that it's hard to imagine anyone else living up to her performance - but hey, it's HBC.

Carter's most notable roles include an Oscar-nominated turn in Tom Hooper's The King's Speech opposite Colin Firth and an unforgettable character in David Fincher's Fight Club opposite Brad Pitt and Edward Norton.

The Netflix royal drama is near a deal to have Carter take on the role in the upcoming third season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. So, the rumor that Helena Bonham Carter might join the cast is just one of the most thrilling ideas we've ever heard. Netflix has yet to officially confirm the show's next season.

Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Goode as Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden.

There is now no word on who will replace Matt Smith as Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Phillip, but personally we can't wait to see these two tearing it up inside Kensington Palace as royal sisters.

Claire Foy has played the Queen for the first two seasons, and earned an Emmy nomination as best actress for her work. Though there are surely plenty of actors who would love to score the plump part of the queen's husband, it will take someone formidable to hold their own against Colman and Bonham Carter.

So taking on the role of Princess Margaret shouldn't be a problem for her.

"What's so lovely about Claire is her youth", he told Variety ahead of the season one premiere.

It has always been known what The Crown's creator, Peter Morgan, has envisioned for the masterful Netflix series: a sweeping saga that follows the British royal family throughout the 20th century.

Now, if only they would tell us who's playing Prince Philip.
