Erica Garner, the eldest daughter of the late Eric Garner - who died in 2014 after being put in a chokehold by NY police - has died. "No one gave her justice", she wrote.

Garner's official Twitter account, run by her family and friends since she became ill, asked that she be remembered as a mother, daughter, sister and aunt with a heart "bigger than the world".

She had been in a coma since 23 December after suffering a heart attack triggered by an asthma attack.

Eric Garner screamed "I can't breathe" 11 times while being put in a chokehold by an NYPD officer in Staten Island after police tried to arrest him for allegedly selling loose cigarettes.

She died at Woodhull Hospital of natural causes, according to the Reverend Al Sharpton, as reported by the New York Post.

Erica Garner suffered a heart attack and had been hospitalized since the day before Christmas Eve. He added that her family did not remove her from life support.

Mr Garner's death was ruled a homicide by medical examiners, but a grand jury did not charge any arresting officers in the case. "What do you want from marching?' He was my father", Garner told NBC News in 2015.

She also had a heart attack after giving birth to a boy named after her father in August.

Rest in peace Erica Garner and thank you for your service.

Tributes have been pouring in from fellow human rights activists, with many leaving the message "Rest in power" to honor the political activist and mother of two.
