Gas prices for the year-end holidays should be on par with, and possibly lower than, last year, AAA said.

Gas prices in Florida have continued to decline and are now below what they were before Hurricane Harvey caused prices to surge in late August, according to AAA.

In San Antonio, GasBuddy reported Monday that average gas prices stood at $2.05 a gallon, a 5 cent drop over the previous week.

"More than 97 million Americans will begin to hit the road this week for the holidays - the most ever on record", said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. "So today, motorists can find gas for $2.50 or less at 71 percent of gas stations in the country". It was also just before Labor Day weekend, as Florida residents kept their eyes peeled on Hurricane Irma's forecast path.

There is still a potential for further reductions in price. The state average is falling at a rate of 1 cent per day and prices for the year-end holidays should be on par with, if not lower than past year, AAA said.

"We can thank USA oil production, which has come a long way in the last five years", DeHaan said.

In Florida, the most expensive average gas price was $2.52 in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area. Petersburg-Clearwater and Jacksonville regions.'s latest report over the weekend said the average price for a gallon of unleaded in IN is two dollars and 48 cents.

AAA expects gasoline demand to weaken throughout the winter, which translates to better prices at the pump.
