U.S. decision on Jerusalem is "flagrant attack on political solution": AL

The Palestinian foreign minister said on Saturday that President Mahmoud Abbas would not meet Pence during his visit to the region this month, in a snub over the U.S. decision.

"In the name of Fatah I say that we will not welcome Trump's deputy in the Palestinian territories".

Egypt has repeatedly voiced its concerns over the US controversial recognition of the holy city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, stressing the move would negatively affect stability in the Middle East region.

Erdogan also blasted Israel and Trump in a speech on Saturday, calling it a "state of occupation" and saying the US President had "unleashed conflict".

The Israeli leader made the comments late Saturday as he left for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and a rare meeting with European Union foreign ministers in Brussels. Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent state. The Arab League, in a statement issued after an emergency session in Cairo, called Trump's announcement a "dangerous violation of global law" which had no legal impact and was void.

The policy change will also see the U.S. embassy to Israel move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a decision that has sparked anger and protests throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, and drawn condemnation from world leaders.

In East Jerusalem about 60 people demonstrated near the walled Old City, where paramilitary border police and officers on horseback tried to disperse the crowd with tear gas.

On Sunday, violence erupted for a fourth day in the occupied Palestinian territories in response to Trump's announcement. Tens of thousands have also protested in Middle Eastern and Muslim countries.

The Turkish president has used his position as the current chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to call a summit of the pan-Islamic group on Wednesday.
