Police Say Suspect & 2 Students Dead After Shooting At New Mexico School

Two students were killed during a shooting at a New Mexico high school before the shooter also was killed, New Mexico State Police confirmed Thursday.

Three people are dead and more than a dozen others are injured after a gunman opened fire at New Mexico's Aztec High School Thursday morning.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that according to San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christesen, three people, believed to be students, are dead.

The two victims were students at the school police said, adding that no other injuries were reorted. It wasn't immediately clear if the shooting happened inside the school, who was suspected of firing the shots and what condition the wounded were in.

We are aware that there was a shooting at Aztec High School.

Deputies are asking everyone to avoid the area as emergency crews work the scene.

The school was placed on lockdown as everyone was evacuated. Aztec is located in northwest New Mexico.
