"Busiest holiday season:" Over 50 million Americans expected to travel this Thanksgiving

Nearly 4 million Texans will travel more than 50 miles to their destinations, an increase of 3 percent over previous year.

The average price of gas in our state rings in at $2.40/g, which is up 32 cents from this time past year. About 79,200, or seven percent, will fly to their destinations, and about 22,500 will take buses, trains, cruises or other modes of travel, the auto club said.

The busiest travel day will be November 22, the day before Thanksgiving.

AAA expects the four-day holiday to be the busiest in more than 10 years, with an estimated 50.9 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more. "A strong economy and labor market are generating rising incomes, fueling a strong year for the travel industry, which will continue into the holiday season". This would be a 3.3 percent increase over past year, and be the highest number of travelers since 2005.

AAA estimates that 51 million Americans plan to travel for the holiday, which means the roads will be super packed.

That is a three-percent increase from a year ago.
