They rescued 17 persons and fished out bodies of 21 persons along with NDRF, fire and police personnel. They were helped by trained swimmers and local fishermen who launched rescue efforts when the boat capsized.

"According to preliminary investigation, the private agency which was operating the boat did not have a license from the tourism department", he added.

"Till the last person is found the operation will go on without any break", Mr. Sawang said.

A survivor in the incident also alleged that the boat operator was trying for ferry more passengers and that it was overloaded. In a separate incident, at least six people had drowned in river Ganga in Bihar's Maranchi.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is in Kerala now, held a teleconference with the ministers and officials from the accident site itself. Some of the deceased were identified as J Prakash Reddy, P Sitaramaiah, V Koti Reddy, Venkateswarulu, Koteswara Raju, Kusuma and Lalitha, K Rama, P Anamma, and Narayana Raju.
