Three Shot At Uptown Starbucks: Boy, 12, Wounded, Man Dead

Chicago police said three people were shot, including a child, and one of them was killed at a Starbucks in the city's Uptown neighborhood Thursday night.

The shooting happened about 8:10 a Starbucks location at 4753 N. Broadway, according to Chicago police and fire officials. The suspect opened fire inside the Starbucks, striking three people including a 12-year-old boy.

The deceased was shot in the body and was declared dead at the scene, police said adding that the 12-year-old was shot in the groin and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center by ambulance immediately.

Police say the 12-year-old boy and a man were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His condition is unknown at this time. A man was also wounded and self-transported to the hospital. The gunman followed and began firing, killing the man wounding the other man and boy.

A spokesperson for Starbucks said they are dismayed to hear about the gun violence and are working with law enforcement to obtain more information.

"I thought it was firecrackers", she said.
