Cab slams into crowd at London shopping center

In a brief statement released soon after the crash to dispel any speculation about a terror-motive, the Met said: "Police were called at 17:01hrs to reports of a taxi in collision with pedestrians in Southampton Street WC2. Not thought to be terrorist related". Police said the taxi driver stopped at the scene and had been detained.

Witnesses reported seeing casualties in the wake of the incident, with the London Ambulance Service confirming that they have crews on the scene.

A TAXI has ploughed into pedestrians near London tourist hotspot Covent Garden.

"We are aware of injuries but await further confirmation".

Green was furious with the decision, as Beal had physically instigated the incident. That enraged Green, and they became entangled with arms around each other.

Photos from the scene this evening showed the black cab on the pavement with people comforting at least one person on the ground. Famed vlogger, Pro Syndicate, tweeted, "We just walked outside the theatre and a taxi just drove into a crowd of people walking past".

London has been on a heightened state of alert after a number of vehicle-related incidents in the capital this year.

Two others were treated for minor injuries at the scene, while the fourth received medical checks.

Stuart Crichton of London Ambulance Service said: "A man was treated for a serious leg injury and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority".
