The White House's aggressive effort to discredit a Florida congresswoman who criticised President Donald Trump over a military condolence call ran into new problems when a video emerged showing that the Chief of Staff had made false claims about her.

Myeshia Johnson told ABC's Good Morning America on Monday she has nothing to say to the president.

Johnson said when the president's phone call came in to the master sergeant in the auto with her, she asked that it be placed on speakerphone so others could hear it. In addition to Johnson, three other USA soldiers were killed.

And when he did on Tuesday, Rep. Frederica Wilson said tht the president was disrespectful during a phone call he made to Johnson's widow; Wilson was on the phone when Trump called and said that Sgt. Johnson "knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt".

"Not only does he owe me an apology but he owes an apology to the American people, because when he lied on me he lied to them, and I don't think that's fair, and I think that's wrong", Wilson said on Sunday's broadcast of MSNBC's AM Joy.

She revealed his tone made her cry and he struggled to remember her husband's name. "I know my husband's body from head to toe".

Myeshia Johnson appeared to confirm Ms Wilson's assertion that Mr Trump said her husband had known what he had signed up for when joining the military. "So, he loved everybody - he was a peaceful person", she said.

When Stephanopoulos asked if she believed she would get the answers to questions surrounding her husband's death, Johnson said: "If I keep pushing for them, I will".

The White House later said he had spoken to the families of those killed in Niger but did not say when. "I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt".

News about the phone call came to light after Rep. Frederica Wilson, who was sitting beside Mrs Johnson during the call, overheard the comments.

Critics said the episode reflects Mr Trump's continued efforts to avoid scrutiny of his conduct in office by casting blame elsewhere. I'm getting sick and exhausted of this so-called politician using my husband as a political platform. "I don't know what's in that box", she said.

"Whatever Miss Wilson said was not fabricated. It could be empty for all I know". "Why would we fabricate something like that?"

She said she was present during the call and stood by Ms Wilson's account of what was said.
