Bharat 1 is a 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone created by state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Micromax. "This will connect the unconnected masses in rural area at very affordable rate", BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said, while announcing the agreement with Micromax. Notably, it is the first 4G enabled feature phone from the company.
The Micromax and BSNL collaborations will offer users with the low-priced data that means enjoying the unlimited call and internet services at an affordable price of Rs 97/- every month.
Clearly, BSNL's plan is way ahead of Reliance Jio's tariff plan of Rs. 153. With the launch of the Bharat 1, both Micromax and BSNL are aiming to target India's 50 crore feature phone users in the country who have not been able to subscribe the 4G VoLTE network due to high costs associated only with smartphones. The device features a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal memory. It features a 2-megapixel camera on the back side, and a VGA camera upfront. The feature phone is juiced up by a 2000mAh battery and support connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB 2.0 and dual-SIM slot. And Micromax is also offering some digital content services such as Live TV, movies, and music. Jumping on the bandwagon of cheap phones with 4G capabilities, BSNL has taken on Reliance Jio and Airtel in the battle.
The Micromax Bharat-1 is essentially pitted against the likes of Jio Phone.
