Rafael Nadal earned his season-leading 58th victory on Thursday by beating Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open.

Nadal broke Isner's serve in the 9th game of the first set, which was the only break for the two players during the 104-minute fight.

Goffin will next meet Argentine eighth seed Diego Schwartzman who eased past Steve Johnson of America 6-0, 7-5.

Nadal, who is chasing for his fourth time year-end world No.1, had won 5 titles this year, including the unprecedented 10th in the French Open and the third in the US Open.

There were frequent flashes of brilliance from Nadal early on, but the match really sprung to life as Dimitrov responded impressively to a nightmare start in the second set.
