As we explain in more detail in our Netflix guide, there are three different subscription plans available to subscribers.

Now that every streamer makes its own originals, Netflix is in a race to keep up with the likes of YouTube, Hulu, and Amazon. The premium service, which allows streaming on up to four screens at the same time, as well as ultra HD content access, is upping from $11.99 a month to $13.99 a month. With 100 million monthly subscribers, this price hike probably rakes in another $100 million a month or so.

Netflix doesn't typically offer insight into the success or failure of its programming, but management has pointed to "Stranger Things" as a catalyst for subscriber growth. This latest price increase was inevitable and it will likely rise again at some point. "The price change will roll out to members over the course of the next several months".

Those who are currently on the $9.99 plan will now have to add one more dollar and pay $10.99 per month. The company's chief content officer Ted Sarandos recently confirmed that Netflix will spend $7 billion on content next year alone.

These price increases come as Netflix is spending more and more on original content.

Mitchelson rates Netflix a buy with a price target of $225. "I don't think we'll see an immediate impact (on Netflix subscriber numbers), but this could affect subscriber growth in the first or second quarters (next year) for Netflix". These prices are expected to go official starting November. That's not where the price increase ends, though.

After their free trial, users are automatically switched to the standard package, which until now has cost £7.49 per month.
