President Donald Trump on Friday took a break from taking shots at the federal probe into whether he attempted to obstruct justice to tout a new poll showing his approval rating among Americans is 50 percent.

The latest Associated Press-NORC survey found that 64% of Americans don't approve of the way Trump is doing his job, while only 35% said they did approve.

"We may have our differences, but we do well in times like these to remember that everyone who serves in our nation's capital is here because, above all, they love our country", Trump said of the shooting. This pattern of attitudes suggests a secure position among Texas voters and also means that, for better or for worse, Trump and Texas Republicans fates, for the present, are tightly intertwined.

One-third, or 34 percent, thinks he has a great deal or even a fair amount of respect for them. But among Democrats, 90 percent of respondents said Trump lacked honesty and the temperament to be president.

While that sentiment appeared most common among Democrats and independents - 9 in 10 and 6 in 10, respectively - a third of Republican voters said Trump had little or no respect for democratic institutions in America.

By comparison, Rasmussen says, just 28 percent said the shooting of Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and the killing of six others in Arizona in January 2011 was the result of political anger.

Still going strong at 41, Johnson agrees to 3-year extension
I do know I'm having a great time and I don't want to stop right now. I'm sure discussions will take place about an extension for him.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has also been appointed to oversee the Russian Federation investigation. Mueller was appointed after Trump dismissed Comey, who had been leading the inquiry.

The other source of potential weakening support for Trump, which stretches back to the presidential campaign, are his personal qualities. "What he's trying to do is good". Clinton won the popular vote by 1 percentage point, even though Trump beat her on electoral votes. For example, as long as Trump maintains 80 percent job approval among Texas Republicans, it is inconceivable that Republicans in the Texas congressional delegation will entertain any idea of impeachment proceedings.

Almost as many - 64 percent - disapprove of Trump's handling of climate change.

On RealClearPolitics poll aggregator for "Trump's Favorability" and "Direction of the Country", Trump also showed the slightest uptick.

Sixty-three percent disapprove of Trump's handling of foreign policy, 60 percent disapprove of his handling of immigration, and 55 percent disapprove of how he's handling the economy.

Republican voters clearly have a favorite in Abbott, with 83 percent approving his job performance.

The AP-NORC poll of 1,068 adults was conducted June 8-11 using a sample drawn from NORC's probability-based AmeriSpeak panel, which is created to be representative of the USA population.
