Erdogan has called for dialogue and negotiation among members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to ease the unprecedented diplomatic crisis that has erupted after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt severed diplomatic ties and traffic links with resource-rich emirate, accusing Doha of sponsoring and funding terrorist organizations.

Qatar vowed on Thursday to ride out the isolation and said it would not compromise its sovereignty over foreign policy to resolve the region's biggest diplomatic crisis in years.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt have suspended all flights to and from Doha and closed off sea and air links to Qatar.

Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Friday described the blockade as a violation of worldwide law and said there was an attempt to mobilise global opinion against Qatar. Erdogan said he had never witnessed Doha supporting terrorism, adding Turkey "will continue to give all kinds of support to Qatar". He says Qatar has taken steps to address that concern but must do more.

"We truly believe that the involvement of the president and the USA will bring this crisis to an end".

"The United States wants a resolution to the situation but it wants a resolution on terms consistent with the principles the president laid out in Riyadh", the official said, adding that Trump was concerned about the humanitarian impact of the crisis but also Qatar's support of "terrorist finance". Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states have accused Doha of supporting extremist groups, but Tillerson suggested that all sides needed to do more.

A peninsular nation of 2.5 million people, Qatar has for years punched well above its weight in world affairs by parleying its vast gas wealth into influence across the region, irking many with its maverick stances and support for Islamists.

Dennis Rodman says 'trying to open a door' in North Korea
Rodman has defended his travels, saying in an interview with CNN in 2014 they would help "open the door" to North Korea. North Korea called the system a provocation that it says is aimed at bolstering US military hegemony in the region.

It was voted into power in Egypt in 2012 but toppled a year later by the military.

"The nation of Qatar, unfortunately, has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level", he said.

"Our position on countering terrorism is stronger than numerous signatories of the joint statement - a fact that has been conveniently ignored by the authors", the Qatari government said in a statement.

The four Arab countries named in a statement 59 people, including Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi, and 12 entities, among them Qatari-funded charities Qatar Charity and Eid Charity.

But the Pentagon has been developing contingency plans in case there is any interruption, defence officials said.

Turkey has maintained good relations with Qatar as well as several of its Gulf Arab neighbors.

Erdogan also approved another accord between Turkey and Qatar on military training cooperation late on Thursday.
