The Nevada Athletic Commission on Wednesday approved the request from Mayweather Promotions to put on a boxing card on August 26 at the MGM Grand.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and MMA superstar Conor McGregor announced they would be fighting on August 26 in what promises to be one of the most intriguing matchups in fight history.

The item was on the agenda for a Wednesday meeting of the commission, and NAC head Bob Bennett said Mayweather Promotions has the ability to re-add the request to the agenda before then.

After the fight was confirmed, odds were updated to have Mayweather at a -800, with McGregor at +500.

Mayweather will reportedly be paid over 100 million USA dollars for the contest, which will be broadcast on pay-per-view networks across the world.

AAA: Michigan's average gas prices fall 9 cents
Now, the New York Times reports that this drop isn't expected to last more than a few weeks. A year ago, the national average was $2.37 a gallon and the Omaha average was $2.28.

Posting to Instagram, the UFC star shared a picture of himself - taken by Ginger Beard Photography - in the ring with boxing gloves on, alongside the caption: "Just tell us the ruleset".

"Floyd did all his business with the MGM", Mayweather continued, discussing the MGM Grand as a possible location rather than the T-Mobile Arena.

The fight is highly anticipated, since it is extremely unexpected and new that a UFC champion with no particular experience or strict training in boxing would challenge an undefeated boxer, like Mayweather, in his area of expertise. Perhaps it's even McGregor's way of trying to bait Mayweather into finalizing a deal, as it's sounding more and more like the much-hyped superfight might soon become a reality.

According to ESPN, the welterweight fight will be aired on Showtime, Mayweather's broadcast partner.

Though Las Vegas oddsmakers have made Mayweather a heavy 10-1 favorite, the thought of the fight has excited many in the MMA world. It comes less than a month before Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez meet in a highly anticipated fight September 16 that could rival it for pay-per-view buys.
